White Tom Yam Mantis Prawn Bihun Soup @ Batu Maung, Penang

Inside the non-appealing futsal court in Batu Maung, one would not expecting there are hawkers inside, especially great white Tom Yam with crispy fried mantis prawn. What noteworthy is this scrumptious sour soup was cooked by themselves while red Tom Yam is using paste. You may choose from the option of fresh fish, fried fish, mantis prawn, pork minced, meatball and big prawn. On the soup side, you may opted for salty vege soup or plain soup beside Tom Yam. Most importantly, they opens from lunch hour to dinner so you can have it anytime in between too.

We have a mixed of fried fish and fried mantis prawn for white Tom Yam (RM 11). The broth's sour level was acceptable with the unconscious attack of the spicy. We begin to taste it's spiciness after half the bowl and it was so exciting! This bowl of bihun was balanced with generous amount of cabbage, choy sum and tomato. What amazed us was the fried mantis prawn. After dipping in the soup for sometime, it still crunchy on every bite.

During our second visit, we smartly ordered fried mantis prawn only for our red Tom Yam (RM 11). It was gratifying however the red Tom Yam wasn't surprised us much.

Another mind blowing dish would be their pork minced porridge (RM 5.50). The porridge was cooked in Teow Chew style where the texture of the rice still preserved,  added on pork mince, choy sum and crunchy lard. Overall, the porridge wasn't MSG but with rich scent and natural sweetness.

The option of rice, maggie and bihun in the listed menu are interchangeable.
