How come such a big portion of Char Koay Teow (CKT) but it is only served at a corner of a plate? This is the uniqueness of the CKT selling at Wahong Cafe, Kampung Jawa. Although we have heard about this CKT and its distinctive presentation, we still cannot help but to open our mouth big, wandering why it is being presented such a way.Ā
Putting aside the unique presentation style, the chef really can fry a good plate of CKT which appeasing to our taste. Needless to say, it is fried with a decent wok-heiĀ and has two big prawns as depicted in the picture.Ā
However, what we really enjoyed about this plate of CKT was the balanced moisture and oil content, and the gooey egg fragments adhering to the moistened flat noodles, kicking in a wonderful and aromatic taste.
If you have a small appetite, then this plate of CKT (RM 5.50) would be just fine for you. The portion here is relatively small, and males usually find that a plate of CKT would be insufficient to please the stomach. On top of that, the waiting time will be a lethargic as 70% of patrons in the kopitiamĀ are waiting the chef to fry a plate of aromatic CKT for them. We waited for close to an hour on a Saturday morning!Ā
Good thing is that chef was kind enough to tell us we needed to wait for that long, thus we ordered some other food in between waiting time.
It was a blessing in disguise due to the long waiting hours. We ordered a set toast with half boiled egg to cure the stomach growling. The toast was good with a hint of buttery and saltiness, but try prevent dipping it into the egg will mask the buttery richness, yielding a rather plain taste.
The hokkien mee here was mediocoreĀ
