There are not many artisan bakery in Penang. One of them is Baking Garage in Lembah Permai, Tanjung Tokong and recently it had expanded their business to New World Park on Jalan Burmah, Georgetown. Aside of selling breads at new outlet, patrons here can be expected to be treated with their brunch menu available from 7:30am - 2:30pm during operation. The brunch menu specializes on matching different ingredients with their specialty bread such as Bánh mì (Vietnamese Baguette), classic sourdough, sourdough miche, vollkornbrot (German whole grain seed bread) and etc. Snacks and breads will be served outside this hour.
For a healthier and less greasy version of big breakfast, go for their The Baker's Big Breakfast (RM 28.00). The conventional items at breakfast are substituted with homemade chicken sausages, classic sourdough, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Interestingly, the homemade chicken sausage had a supply of elusive flavor contributed by the various spiced added during production. If chicken is not your cup of tea, go for their homemade beef.
Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese (RM 23.00) is a lighter version of Baker's big breakfast with the exclusion of homemade sausage. Besides, sourdough miche was served instead and topped with capers.
One of their forte here would be the croissant, thus we ordered their Tuna Mayo Croissant Sandwich (RM 18.00). High quality Lescure French Butter was used to laminate the dough, resulted an exceptionally aromatic end product. On top of that, kneading was well done to ensure a crisp and flaky texture. It was served alongside with fruit of the day and salads topped with cherry tomatoes and walnuts.
Pick their Bánh mì Sandwich (RM 18.00) if you have a stronger affection toward Asianic's breads. The Vietnamese Baguette was layered with a spread of brandy-infused chicken liver pâté, sandwiching two pieces of homemade beef of choice. Somehow, the beef patty had an unusual pleasant scent due to introduction of spices during the meat packing. It was then garnished with pickled vegetables, parsley and basil.
Traditional menu of Half Boiled Egg & Bread Set is offered at the price tag RM 5.90. Patrons can select to have white bread, sourdough bread or wholemeal bread with either homemade kaya or homemade peanut butter spread mixed with Lescure French Butter. We enjoyed the less sweetened and aromatic homemade kaya much.
If your stomach allows after enjoying their artisan bread brunch menu, pamper yourself with a piece of Gula Melaka Cheesecake (RM 12.00). The dessert was less sweetened yet packed with a punch of gula melaka scent.
Drinks wise, we have a choice to side with either traditional no-frills drinks such as coffee and tea, or modernized sophisticated beverages such as French Press Coffee or cold press juices. The cold press juices are worthy for a try as it yields a complex sensation.
