Javu Cafe @ Lebuh Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah, Penang

Javu Cafe is a relatively young cafe secluded at the commercial area in Lembah Permai Tanjung Bungah. Its concealed location at the quaint neighbourhood and distance away from the major travelling road has made its existence virtually unknown the to conventional cafe hoppers. Featuring a Western & Asian inspired menu, Javu cafe serves unique and delicious food albeit the price tag is a little bit on the higher end. Nevertheless, additional efforts might have to pushed to drive up its drink quality to live up the patrons' expectations.

Chicken Tagine

Chicken Piri Piri

We were informed the menu to date (28th July 2018) is a relatively new menu. Intrigued by its name, we ordered a Chicken Tagine (RM 32) and Chicken Piri Piri (RM 22), a Moroccan specialty served with rice & couscous and a sousvide whole boneless chicken marinated in piri piri sauce respectively. The classic North African chicken tagine had 4 decent chicken stew in curry alike gravy, though it is lighter than the conventional Malaysian curries. However to our dismay, the promised couscous on the menu description was missing! As we were in a hurry, we did not bother to ask.

Chicken Piri Piri comes with a whole boneless chicken that possess extremely soft and tender texture. Though the piri piri sauce was nice but it was insufficient to dress the entire chicken. Overall a lovely dish it was. You can pick fries, mashed potato, rice, pasta or salad with your choice of dressing to be served with the dish.

Both drinks we had during our visit - Matcha Latte (RM 12) and Cappuccino (RM 10) were not impressive. It was diluted and the expected taste profile were missing entirely.

Overall, we enjoyed the food here that offers a different taste dimension compared to the other hipsters cafe in the town. Would come back here to try a few of their other dishes that caught our attention such as Salmon Salsa Verde, Lamb Chop Provencale, Pork Gordon Bleu and Red Snapper & Ratatouille.
