If you check out the intersection between Lebuh Kimberly and Lorong Ngah Boo in Georgetown, you will see this unpromising dead end is thronged with crowd in the morning. The people are here of course with a reason - to sample Poh Lay Duck Meat Koay Teow Soup which has been existing here for some time. A bowl of Koay Teow Soup here ain't cheap (RM 6 per bowl), but their speciality here lies within braised chicken drumstick, and special order of chicken feet & pork bellies on Saturday and Sunday.
The Koay Teow Soup was good but not great. Soup is lightly scented but as we consumed it, the taste started to build up. It was scantly topped with slices of duck meats that hardly justify its higher price tags. If you prefer a bolder taste, add some pepper, soy sauce and chili to spice it up. Probably this is one of the most expensive hawker Koay Teow Soup we ever had in Penang.
If you do not mind to go extravaganza in hawker once a while, then order the braised chicken drumstick for a trial. The chicken meat is so tender smooth, and the braised sauce packs an elusive taste that gives it a nice finishing. It gives a thick coating to the smooth chicken meat with a slight caramelized taste.
