Sometimes, we would crave for a bowl of peppery Teochew style Bak Kut Teh and Singapore is the only places that offer such taste. During our trip to Singapore lately, our local friend brought us to Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh located at Havelock Road. Overall, this modest place offers a soothing and light style of Bak Kut Teh, along with various delicious side dishes such as pork stomach, intestines, tails, various vegetables and etc. It may look like just another neighbourhood coffee shop but rest assured your appetite will be well rewarded here.

Interestingly, other than rice, you can opt to have mee sua and enjoy it along with your bowl of bak kut teh.
Personally, we felt the pork were soft and tender, and the light peppery soup is something soothing to have in the night. However, it would be greater if the soup was served piping hot. It tasted slightly cold to enjoy.
At the same time, we also ordered a few side dishes to enjoy. The pork intestines were a demonstration of fine execution of culinary - well marinated, cleaned pork intestines, and the soy sauce surprisingly did just nice by not masking the flavour of the pork intestines. The same case also applies to tao kua, as we can taste the original softness and flavour of the beancurd complemented well by the dark soy sauce.
Braised salted vegetable is another good choice to have too.
If you can take the heat from the chili, add on some chilies to your meal and guarantee you will feel the immense heat.
Currently, Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh operates a few branches in Singapore. Other than the one in Havelock Road, there are outlets in Keppel, Raffles City Shopping Centre, Bedok Point, Kova, Ion and other places. Do check out this Bak Kut Teh if you enjoy peppery Teochew style Bak Kut Teh!
