Tang Xi Kopitiam 唐禧茶室 is a modest coffee shop located right beside the famous Jalan Siam Char Koay Teow. You can easily make your choice of food here with the small menu. It will be either Koay Teow Th'ng or Curry Noodle (with different toppings at additional surcharge), or you may go for toasts and half boiled eggs as snacks. On top of that, the coffee shop also offers "Hor Kar Sai", a mixture of coffee and Milo originated from Kuala Kurau. All in all, this kopitiam is suitable for a quick fix of stomach without denting your wallet much.
Nothing surprise or exciting for the toast and half boiled egg we ordered. It is some normal fare available in kopitiam throughout Penang. Nevertheless, the Hor Kar Sai deserves some praise though it still lacks the awesomeness compared to the original Hor Kar Sai we had in Kuala Kurau.
The Koay Teow Th'ng here is a decent choice. Personally, we liked the minced meat and the pork balls (additional request) but it was sad to learn the homemade fish balls had sold out. As for the soup, it was alright. If you prefer to go for the luxury version of Koay Teow, you may add on pork kidney, intestine, fish slices, egg or bacons in additional cost.
Meanwhile, the Curry Noodle has the soup made from the Maggi instant noodle curry powder. It was nothing spectacular - just an instant noodle added with egg and sausage for RM 4.50. However, you can make a grand version of it by adding cheese tofu, minced meat, egg and bacon at the price tag RM 9.70.
We thought the coffee here was alright and gao enough to provide the kick, though we would prefer a less sweetened version.
