KL Style Hokkien Mee @ Kwong Chiu Restaurant 广潮, Jalan Siam Penang

There are not many restaurants in Penang that serve KL Style Hokkien Mee, or better known as Dai Lok Mee to Penangites. If there are, the taste hardly resembles those we get in KL until the opening of Kwong Chiu Restaurant (广潮) in Jalan Siam. We were really impressed by the taste of the KL Hokkien Mee here, and yearn to come back for a second trip. Apart of the signature KL Style Hokkien Mee, the restaurant also serves Kwong Fu Chao Yin Yong, braised dishes, snacks and etc.

The KL Hokkien Mee (RM 11.90) served at Kwong Chiu restaurant is brimming with aroma that arises from the dark soy sauce coating the noodles. On top of that, the noodle is infused with a great degree of charcoal scent (wok-hei), along with al-dente texture that renders it extremely appeasing to the palate. Topping of generous amount of pork lard makes the dish even intriguing but to the certain extent hazardous to health.

Kwong Fu Chau served here is equally delicious. Its egg-based gravy is smooth and flavourful, packing a nice scent that compliments the combination of flat rice noodles and rice vermicelli well.

We prefer to add some sambal to both of the dishes to provide some heat component that elevates its overall taste.

The Chili Oil Dumpling (RM 7.00) here is addictive. Dressing the dumpling with rich filling with chili oil is a clever combination that resembles the dumplings served in Taiwan.
