Xiang Yun Vegetarian Hut 香云素食坊 @ Komplex Bukit Jambul, Penang

I was kinda herbivore lately due to having a number of vegetarian friends.
It's good that I began to put more notice on vegetarian restaurant!

I guess not much Penangite know about Komplex Lebuh Nipah which situated opposite Kayu Nasi Kandar and behind The CEO office building. Half of stalls in Komplex are selling vegetarian foods. I was having dilemma choosing on my every visit. @@

However, I was recommended to try out Xiang Yun Vegetarian Hut. They have various choices of foods for you to order instead of vegetarian economy rice which most of the stalls there are selling.

Chee Cheong Fun aka Rice Noodle Roll (RM 2.00). Without Hae Kor aka shrimp paste, the black sweet sauce tasted very nice still. The cheong fun was topped with sesame seed which maked every bite crunchy and chewy. The great part of vegetarian food is that they don't put dried shallot.

Laksa (RM 3.00) with shredded cucumber, shredded pineapples and lettuse, garnished with mint leaves and ginger flowers. It's kind of small bowl if just for lunch. The soup was sweet and sour, a little bit spicy. Due to this is vegetarian laksa, so the soup doesn't has the fishy taste at all. The more I drank the soup, the pungent it taste.

Jawa Mee (RM 3.00) sauce was creamy and very tomato. Added on the chili makes the whole dishes very appetizing.

Healthy Herbal Noodle Soup (RM 3.00), without the essence of chicken, the soup can be very palatable too. The simply herbal aromatic dish just perfect when I was craving for something plain as my lunch.

I would say aunty's Koay Chap (RM 3.00) very special. Very thin handmade pieces of Hor Fun came with tau gua and meat analogue that similar to pork's organ, then topped with welsh onion. My taste buds found it difficult to digest the unique taste of the soup, but soon I began to accept it. There was a mild herbal taste released from the soup and consist of little spiciness came from pepper.

I tried their Nasi Lemak too, the sambal was great.

They sell Curry Mee, Hokkien Mee, Porridge, Lam Mee, Loh Mee, Udon Noodle soup and Char Hor Fun too. Variety of choices right? However, Laksa & Chee Cheong Fun are their hot seller.
