It wasn't easy to find succulent dry version of Bak Kut Teh in Penang, after all the best Bak Kut Teh would always be at Klang. Jalan Merak is just at the opposite of Tesco Extra main entrance. Coming from USM, when you turn right into Jalan Merak, you will notice there is a Bak Kut Teh shop at the corner of the residence. Go straight until you find Seong Huat Coffee Shop on your left. Although there is lotsa options available in the coffee shop, you will find most of the table have a least one claypot serving on their table.
Dry Bak Kut Teh (RM 8) could be spicy for non casual spicy eater. The flavorful starchy sauce has turned on our galloping mechanism on scooping the rice down our throat.
Bak Kut Teh Soup (RM 7) was lacking in term of the herbs scent. The gravy level of the broth was acceptable. They even serve extra bowl of bak kut teh broth at the beginning, knowing that most of us having the habit of refilling.
Their Yam Rice (RM 1) was a little under expectation and it is almost tasteless. Fortunately, we do have chili and piquant soy sauce from the dry bak kut teh to go along.
