In the
intersection between Jalan Datuk Haji Ahmad Badawi and Jalan Tum Hamdan Sheikh
Tahir at Kepala Batas, Seberang Perai Utara Penang lies an unnamed coffee shop.
Though unnamed, the coffee shops seem to be crowded over time and most of the
patrons there were savoring Teo Chew Porridge.
The non-mushy
texture of Teo Chew porridge, with the distinctive granular forms of the rice
grains spreaded in the pottage. Hence, usually Teo Chew porridge tasted bland
and it relies on the side dishes to complete the meal. In my opinion, it is
like you are having a different version of economy rice.
A notable dish to complement the Teo Chew porridge was the slimy mackeral (ikan kembung). The slimy mackerel (RM 2) was served with its well-balanced sweetness, saltiness and sourness condiments, which is just nice to enhance the bland taste Teochew porridge.
Honestly speaking, I dislike taking slimy mackerel as it was bony but the great taste made me disregard the bony fish and just enjoying it. Observation made was that most of the patrons opt for the slimy mackerel and there is a big pot of slimy mackerel prepared to fulfill all the needs of the customers!

Wantan mee
(RM 3.00) is available at the coffee shop too with its slight starchy gravy.
The chili paddy served was indeed spicy and burning.
