When locals
from different strata of the society rallying to that particular stall, it won’t
be hard to believe decent dishes are served there. Perlis, despite being the
smallest state in Malaysia, has such great sight at Jalan Jubli Perak at Kangar
town - the Indonesia style curry rice.
Although being a stall selling Indonesia Curry Rice, the owner is a Chinse while Indonesia is far apart from
Perlis. The economy rice may appear
simple but it always manages to make my saliva drools whenever I thought of it
at Penang.
All dishes are
nicely presented in traditional aluminum tiffin carriers with a variety of
choices available such as meats cooked in various styles – curry, soy sauces,
vegetables, fishes etc. Their specialty belongs to the various own prepared
curries mixed with spices, giving their curries very own identity which hardly
could be replicated by others. Always request for mixed curries (kuah campur),
just like how usual people will request in Nasi Kandar stalls and you will
leave the coffee shops with a full stomach and a nice smile.
Personally,
I like the idea of serving the dishes in tiffin carries as it symbolizes the
food are prepared by the hearty chef to its customers. It reminds me my
grandparents and parents brought lunch and dinner in tiffin carries back to
home for us when I was small, and the jubilance atmosphere in the dining table
when they open the tiers of tiffin carriers.
My plate of
lunch consists of my favorite braised egg, long beans and chickens for RM6.00.
It took me some time to wait patiently in the queue to get my plate of lunch.
The price could go beyond your imagination if you opt for a more carnivorous
diet. Nevertheless, it was worthwhile the price anyhow, considering how many
times you will be here to enjoy this scrumptious economy rice?
