Kim Hin Cafe @ Gelugor, Penang

Kim Hin has about 20 years history. Recently, new chef has joined in as the 70 years old chef decided to retire. It is still crowded at night, especially on the weekend. Family from the vicinity love having their family gathering here. We usually have to queue up a while waiting for table to be freed. Be prepared to sweat a little bit when you dine in, as the ventilation design in the old shop house was not well designed. They have variety of dish choices offered in wallet friendly prices. However, we thought the dishes taste better during the old chef time.

Braised pork with preserved vege in soy sauce. Sinful pork belly was braised until greasily soft. Mild saltiness coming from the pickled vege, with the sauce texture in much watery version. We certainly prefer the sauce to be much thicker, maybe more dark soy sauce.

It was a little too much 2 persons to finish their Oat Mantis Prawn. We end up enjoying it as snack while chit-chatting, savouring the chewy crisp texture.

Potato Leaf pan fried with Sambal. The sambal has made the vege appetizing, however it would be even better if we requested it to be cooked with extra spicy.
