Ong Cheng Huat is sort of hidden from the main road (Jalan Bagan Lallang), however there is road sign that will point you where to turn in. (You may grab the link at the bottom of the post) Though their shop mentioned seafood, however their trademark is the deep fried spring chicken. Their menu is small so my ex-colleagues and I decided to try all. Their portion is small though but it is good for small group of eaters. Orders were served in jiffy, we have no worries if we were to get back office late.
We actually left this Deep Fried Spring Chicken (RM 6.50/piece) put at the very last savoring pleasure. The chicken were fried to evenly brown shade with slight crisp, while leaving the flesh juicy tender. One piece is just not enough to satiate our lust as the flesh was little.
Our favourite that came second was this Prawn cracker (RM 7/piece). It is made of thin popiah skin, fried to crispy texture. One bite, the cracker has broke into pieces and felled on our plate. Gentle bite is recommended.
We have came into seafood restaurant so lets start with light seafood, the Boiled Octopus (RM 18). A handful of garlic was sprinkled on top of it, accompanied by the sweet chili seasoned with peanut powder. We enjoyed it's chewy springy texture.
Kong Pou Mantis Prawn (RM 23) |
Steamed Clam (RM 20) |
Teow Chew Steamed Fish (RM 96) |
Their Kong Pou Mantis Prawn were cooked with strong flavour, while the steam clam emitted the freshness with ginger scent. Teow Chew Steamed Fish is something you shall not miss during your visit. The flesh was thick, nicely cut letting the garlic, ginger and chili absorbed into it. The soup were sweet that I was hoping for a bowl of white rice to be drenched with.
螺肉(Fried Balitung) RM 22 |
Curry Prawn (RM 90 for 20 pieces of prawn) |
Fried Mee Hoon (RM8.50) |
Unlike other zhu cha restaurant, they are focusing on snacking dish, However, we need some carbohydrate to fill up our stomach. The only option is fried mee hoon. For drinks, we strongly recommend their honey lemon served in 1.5 litre bottle, cost for RM 12.
They do not have menu but depending on visual presentation, so lookout for these big signboard at the wall to place your order.
