In the present days, vegetarian diets are no longer a dietary requirement or religious obligations. Instead, vegetarian food has been modified to become trendy by mimicking it to popular cuisines, such as western food, sushi and etc. Such phenomenon is good as it advocates more people to enjoy the benefits of consuming more vegetables (meat analogues with flour only are exemption). One exemplary vegetarian restaurant of this kind is Touch Veggie Delight at Sunrise Gurney, Penang.
Remarks: Touch Veggie Delight has since closed down
Touch Veggie Delight is practicing a semi fast food concept, whereby patrons order the dishes at the counter and collect them once the number is being called. Set menu comes with a bowl of white rice and a cup of drink of your choice, whilst ala carte dishes are offered too.
The restaurant deserved a compliment for having such a wide range of dishes for selection till we were having difficulty in making the choices. Initially, we did not know the set come with a bowl of white rice, hence we went for Sticky Rice in Lotus Leat set (RM 12.90), resulted us having two bowls of rice.
The sticky rice was served unwrapped in the lotus leaf. Usage of lotus leaves had indeed imparted a fragrance and delicate flavor to the rice despite the missing of pork bellies or dried shrimp available in conventional sticky rice. Coupled with the crunchy toppings, the overall dish was good and less greasy as compared to conventional sticky rice. Eating rice solely definitely taste dull, thus a small bowl of stir-fried yam bean (Jicama) and a bowl of soup was served along the set.
However, we do find the bowl of white rice appeared awkward for this particular set. Not only it was redundant with the sticky rice and we had nothing much to eat along with it. The chef should have replaced it with something else.
When we were served the Cream Curry Prawn Spaghetti (RM 19.90), the yellowish colour somehow caught us in a shock. We were assuming the yellowish colour was derived from the curry powder used due to the presence of strong and pleasant curry taste in the noodles. Even without the usage of butter due to vegetarian diet, the pasta was surprisingly creamy. The prawn was in fact meat analogue with stir-fried yam bean stuffed within.
We ordered another cup of Premium Milk Tea (RM 6.90) and pick soya as the drink for the set. Both were pleasant in taste and not sweetened. Tea scent was strong in the premium milk tea though.
This will be the yellowish lips you will get if you order the Cream Curry Prawn Spaghetti. Looked like my lips were severely infected with Jaundice.
