When we passed by New World Park at Jalan Burmah, we noticed a modest stall neighboring to New World Park was swarmed with crowd. It was actually a kopitiam selling Hainanese chicken rice and has been selling there for years. Hence we thought to ourselves, why don't we just give it a try?
It was about 3pm and the chickens hanging at the stall were barely left. Still, we managed to order a portion of mixed roasted and poached chicken for 1 person, a braised egg, a bowl of chai boey (mustard green stews) and a bowl of rice.Â
The poached chicken had a tender and succulent texture, while the roasted chicken was mediocre. It was drenched with nicely scented soy sauce to spice up the taste. The portion was relatively smaller though with just few pieces of chicken meats. Match with the amazing chili garlic sauce served to relish on it.Â
The mustard green stews had a spicy tingling taste but the very unpleasant sharp taste toward the taste buds and throat hindered us from having more.
The whole meal here cost us RM 11, excluding the drinks. We felt such price tag was exorbitant for just a small portion of chicken rice, although the taste was above average. Perhaps the mathematics worked utilizing below formula: chicken (RM 6), mustard green stews (RM 2), braised egg (RM 2), rice (RM 1). Still, the price was unreasonably high for the portion of 1 person. After paying for the meal, the friendly boss did where were we from. Therefore I am assuming he was trying to make a fortune from "tourists" like us?Â

Operation Hour : 9am - 5pm or whenever finishes (Closed on Wednesday)Â
I've ordered Duck Rice at Fatty Boy's many times. He sells out every day and it pays to be early, once he's out of chicken and duck he closes - usually by 2PM or shortly thereafter. I've always had a great meal and hope to again when next I'm in Georgetown, Penang.
