Aqua Lab + Urban Artisan @ Lebuh Campbell, Georgetown, Penang

Urban Artisan was a sensational when it was launched in Penang, serving some real good soft serve ice cream. Recently, Urban Artisan had expanded into a cafe named Aqua Lab along Lebuh Campbell, serving a few dishes and choices of drinks for patrons.

Gelato geeks will be absolutely delighted over with the 10 flavours of soft serve being offered here. The average price per scoop goes lower as you pick more scoop, and a family of 4 will have no problem finishing the family platter that consists of 8 scoops.

As there were only 2 of us, our stomach could only cater for Charcoal Toast with 2 Scoops Gelato (RM 25.90). Our pick were Honey Green Tea and Black Sesame Butter Nut Gelato and it truly did not disappoint. Anyhow, you may sample the Gelato at the serving counter before arriving into your pick.

We were intrigued to order their Soft Shell Crab Burger (RM 25.90) after being tempted by their luscious advertisement across social media. However, the reality was not really up to our expectations. The soft shell crab looked huge on the picture and upon served but we could finish the entire burger within 4-5 bites. Moreover, the taste was rather bland and only way was to enhance it using the fiery hot chili sauce. When all these factors being put together, we thought the price was rather steep for it..

There were only a few choices of drinks offered, namely cold brew and moo-juice. The Salted Caramel Latte (RM 10.90) was prepared in advance and serve directly to us in the bottled form. While we agreed the coffee scent was strong, the essence of caramel latte was somehow lacking.

Our verdict for the visit: We would only come back for the Urban Artisan Gelato.
