Roots Dessert Bar is a relatively new addition to the long list of cafes in Penang but the cafe certainly has a few factors worth celebrating. It is not another cafe next door that serves uninspiring cakes and coffee which you could get easily in another cafes. As a matter of fact, the desserts and drinks here possess their very own DNA traits, cleverly innovated and presented in an artisanal way.
As the cafe name bar suggested, most of their desserts here are rooted with small radish leaves as decoration item. As expected, the price tags for the desserts are more skewed toward the premium side, justified by its quality.

Tofu Cheesecake (RM 17.00) is a creative dessert selection. The bar of cake has silky soft and creamy layer sitting on biscuit crumb, served alongside with honeycomb and jellies. It is best eaten with drizzles of Gula Melaka to give it a sweet ending, although we would prefer a much cheesy taste.
The luscious Banana Foster Trifle (RM 18.00) is an delectation in both sensory and visual. The dessert has brownie alike layer in the center, sandwiched between biscuit crumb flakes with a tad of saltiness and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Slices of bananas are added to give the dessert the expected sweet ending.
Pull Apart Garlic Bread (RM 13.00) is one of the hottest selling item in Roots Dessert Bar, to the extent we were informed that it was sold out during our visit.... Only to be available again after 15 minutes sitting there. We thought what would be so extraordinary about this garlic bread, and the secrets are unveiled when we ordered it.
The cafe took some time to prepare the garlic bread, and the garlic and cheesy scent could be detected when it was served. It is a simple dish with lovely cheese taste. Recommended to share between a group of people, otherwise you will be packed with a full stomach in a while.
The drinks here - Roots Special (RM 12.00) is has an unique combination. It is served with a cup of espresso, only to be pour into the iced lemon drink with honey, resulting a very appeasing drink.
Their Matcha Latte can be ordered by its own, or have it mixed with Azuki Beans, ice cream or both depending on personal preference. We would prefer a much intense matcha taste, though the Azuki Beans did well to infuse a nice sensation to the overall taste porfolio of the drink.
