UMI Japanese Restaurant at Lexis Suite Penang serves Japanese style buffet every Sunday 11:30am to 12:30pm. This is an awesome news for ardent Japanese cuisine lovers, as everything from sushi, teppanyaki and even sashimi are available free-flow throughout the 3 hours buffet!
The settings of UMI Japanese restaurant mimics the Japanese settings with a teapot on every table. Several private rooms then had authentic Japanese settings that had low tables and cushions on Tatami floors.
There are assortment of sushi such as variety of hosomaki (rice rolls), salmon and prawn nigiri, inari at the designated counter. You may request for freshly cut sashimi too.
At the action counter, the chef is ready there to prepare you teppanyaki. Upon ordering, the server will serve directly to your table. Get yourself pampered with some Japanese noodles just beside the action counter and top it with a tempura, then sprinkled spring onions and chili powder for a greater taste.

The chef will often make visit to the main dishes to help you out to serve the main dishes as some of it requires mixing the sauce to yield its taste.
Assortment of Japanese appetizers and western desserts are served as well. Of all the different types of selections offered, we loved the mochi with variety of fillings the most.
Although it is a Japanese themed buffet, patrons can be expected to be served with some fresh seafood on ice with some selections such as crabs, mussels and prawns.
Many thanks to Chef Lim Guan detailed explanation and warm hosting during our visit.
