Located along the tourist belt of Gurney Drive, Evergreen Hotel Penang, the 5-star hotel under the Taiwan-based Evergreen Group take prides of their Evergarden Chinese Restaurant. Evergarden is one of the few Chinese Restaurant holding the Halal certification in Penang. The restaurant offers a la carte and set menu, available to be customized for family gathering, corporate events and private function. There are 8 private rooms and space to cater up to 150 pax. Nyonya and Hainan Delights are the specialty here, skillfully prepared by Chef Lim Kim Hai and his team.
In the month of August, they are offering Sze Chuan Delights promotion. Though Sze Chuan cuisine is typically known as spicy and bold type of Chinese food, the Chef here has carefully crafted the dishes by making sure it is authentic but suit the local palate as well. Steamed fish, beef, mapo taufu are some of the staple foods in Sze Chuan cuisine, so make sure you have them in your ordering list.
Many thanks to Evergreen hotel extending the invitaion.

Evergarden's Chinese set menu was elegantly presented in the manner that is suitable for small function and private event. The dinner started from appetizer with 4 dishes platter, then marched into heavy seafood dishes including fish, prawn and crab. I adore their Sauteed King Prawn. It was first fried with breadcrumb to give you the crisp, then evenly coated with mayo to make it creamy. Not to be missed their Pecking Duck that have been roasted to perfection after one day of soaking in duck skin stock, with caramelized crisp skin that wrapped with fine and thin wrapper. Give your body a boost with their Ginseng soup with chicken essence. The meal ended with sweet snack, warm lotus pancake with chilling herbal jelly.

Highlight of the month of August, Sze Chuan cuisine will be offered here. Hot and sour Sze Chuan soup is a must to kick start your Sze Chuan savoury, starchy soup stock with white sea cucumber that come with a hint of spicy and sour. Another appetizing starter that I enjoyed the most was their Fried Shredded chicken, flavored with sour sensation from vinegar and orange, then finished with spicy oil. It is noteworthy that the beef used for the Sze Chuan beef is beef sirloin imported from Australia and marinated to perfection. I thought Evergarden did a great job when come to duck, their Sze Chuan duck is nicely marinated for 1 day, fried until golden while keeping the flesh tender. Gently dip the duck in the plum sauce for burst of the complex taste.
