The road connectivity at Bayan Lepas town has gone slightly haywire with the construction of the flyovers recently. However, this has not deterred the influx of crowd to Cargas Cafe, a restaurant selling Malay style Nasi Campur. The crowd was so immense that the temporarily defunct road due to construction in front of the cafe are always full of cars and motorcycles, and the cafe was so pack with people like sardines regardless of hours.
Yet, people still come here for breakfast and lunch despite the troublesome roads just to savour their nasi campur, which is the only things they are selling. The counter that display the array of dishes are always full of people, seemingly groping whatever food available to their plate. Reason because every of the dishes seem so delicious to be rejected.
Then you will see the experienced guests holding their plate of rice at the corner. These are the old birds that prey the fresh cooked curry to be brought for the kitchen, and immediately rush to it when the popular dishes such as fried chicken, sting ray curry or squid are being served.
The restaurant is managed by the pair of brothers - Dean & Omar. They helm the kitchen in alternating week. While Dean agreed there might be a slight differences in the cooking style between him and his brother, that might be the positive of it because all the dishes are still widely accepted by the patrons. They insist on using fresh ingredients to maintain the topnotch quality of the dishes, and mingle around the key taste such as saltiness, spiciness and a light sweetness to complement each others.
Undoubtedly, Cargas Cafe serves one of the best Malay Nasi Campur in Penang and the strong statement is justified by the huge presence of crowd after their food.
Interestingly, for dine-in customer, you are required to take your drink by yourself at the drinks counter after paying at the cashier. They took full trust on what you paid for.
