The Wine Shop @ Olive Residency, Bayan Lepas, Penang

The Wine Shop has long history in Penang, having established its first premise at Lintang Burma. As the name suggests, it sells array of wines from over the world and serve some gourmet dishes for wine pairing. At the same time, The Wine Shop also acts as retail and wholesale shop that provides wines, gourmet & cheeses for take away. Currently The Wine Shop has two outlets in Penang. While both outlets also offer an array of wines, each of the outlet have their distinctive dishes. 

We were in the Bayan Baru branch on a Monday and were informed that a lot of lamb dishes which we wanted to order were out of stock. Quite an unfortunate start for the day. Therefore, instead of Australian Lamb Cutlet (RM 55.20), we had to be contended with Gammon Ham Steak (RM 36.30).

The Gammon Ham Steak is nicely seasoned and had a great texture. Coupled with the sauce, it gives a nice mouth-feeling. The only thing to improve was the undercooked mashed potatoes, it still had some hard potatoes chunks instead of the smooth and mushy feelings we hope to have.

Spicy Salami (RM 46.20) Pizza on the other hand, was inspiring. It had salami slices sandwiched between the crisp pizza base and a layer of rich cheese toppings. The taste of the pizza is further enhanced with the strong and nice level of spiciness. However, it had to be paired with a glass of white wine instead of red (we were having Lakefield Shiraz to pair with the Gammon Ham), otherwise it would been a perfect day.

Chocolate Tart (RM 17.60) might taste boring initially but just take the cold ice cream and let it sit on top of the chocolate for a while, then it will slightly melt the chocolate to cater for your sweet-tooth.

The Wine Shop is having a promotion on their house wines, both wine and red for RM 70.00 nett per bottle. If you wish to have other variants of wines, do consult the restaurant attendant for a better advice.
