Gindaco, a well known Takoyaki shops that have outlets spanning across Japan has finally landed in Penang at Gurney Plaza basement. The small stall is located beside Llaollao, offering mostly takeaway snacks such as takoyaki with different toppings and croissant taiyaki (fish shaped cakes) with different fillings. A few chairs are provided at the side for those prefer dine-in. All orders were prepared fresh, ensuring the best of its quality are handed over to you for the top palatal experience.
Croissant taiyaki is offered with 5 different fillings but Red Bean & Matcha Ice Cream was unavailable during our visit. We had the common filling - Azuki Red Bean (RM 7.00) and Ham & Cheese (RM 7.50), each giving a sweet and savoury taste respectively.
First thing first, the croissant taiyaki is well executed. We can feel the layering of the batter like a croissant. Both fillings matched well with the croissant taiyaki, and we were particularly indulged with Ham & Cheese as it offers an aromatic scent coupled with the pleasant saltiness from the cheese. Azuki red bean is great but a sweeter version of it would be better.
Takoyaki is another well executed snacks here. It is available in 4 or 8 pieces with different 5 toppings to choose from. We had Ebi Mayo (RM 13.90 ; 4 pieces) and it was cooked on the spot upon ordering. Thus, watch out to prevent burning on your tongue!
