Nasi Kandar Hameed Beratur @ Kangar, Perlis

Penang has a few Nasi Kandar stalls that always have a large crowd, Kedah has a long queue in front of the Nasi Lemak Royale stall, and the northern most state in Malaysia, Perlis does not lose out to the northern states too. In the small Kangar town, Nasi Kandar Hameed is very well known among the locals. It is located strategically beside the sole McDonald's restaurant in Perlis, and you can see the queue start lining up till the sidewalk starting 6pm.

Nasi Kandar Hameed occupies a large space and can accommodate up to dozens of guests. Despite the never ending long queue, most of the patrons are here for take away therefore need not to worry about seating. As I joined in the long queue, I can see an array of mouth-watering dishes displayed in front of the stall, from the popular fried chicken, tomato chicken, beef, squid, fish, okra, eggs, beancurd and etc, alongside with a huge pot of yellowish coloured rice.

I realized most of the patrons here opt for a minimum of two dishes. It is always a fried chicken then either with beef of squid, while some go for okra or salted eggs for fibers supply and an savoury taste respectively. Thus, I joined the crowd to have a piece of fried chicken, squid and okra that cost me RM 12.00. Ain't a cheap price but that was my expectation when having nasi kandar.

The yellowish rice is flavourful and aromatic. No wonder most of the patrons I observed went for extra rice. Fried chicken is nicely seasoned with some nice salty sensation, though the portion of the chicken is slightly small. Then the squid is nicely cooked and has a lovely fresh sensation but I thought it would be perfect if the gladius or the pen alike hard structure is removed from the squid body.

Coupled with a perfect mixture of the savoury and sweet gravy, the entire plate of nasi kandar is delicious. The overall taste is not exactly spicy, so non-spicy eaters can fully enjoy it.
