The unpretentious exterior makes one easily overlook The Alley, meaning one is likely to miss the gem among the cafe in Penang. The Alley is housed in a colonial building, bearing the signboard Kedai Gaharu Keat Seng (god knows why) and another protruding signboard The Alley. The cozy environment of the cafe renders patron a spot for a laid back afternoon here after enduring the scorching hot sun searching for the wall murals or after praying at the adjacent Temple of the Goddess of Mercy. However, the cafe is relatively smaller in size and depending on luck, sometimes the lady luck is just not with you.

One thing that you must not miss out is the Churros at The Alley. As a matter of fact, there ain't many cafes offering this simple yet delicate snack, and those cafes which offer them turned out to be not worthy mention. The churros here are flaky, giving a crisp sound upon chewing it. Each serving of churros come along of 2 choices of sauces or toppings, depending on your preferences. If not for picture purposes, we would have opted for another chocolate dipping instead of cookie crumble side.
