Kota Belud Signature Food - Mee Sup

Kota Belud is a small town in the western coast of Sabah that often serves as gateway to Kudat, the northernmost tip of Borneo Island. It is popular for the weekly "Tamu" (market) on every Sunday, and you can also try one of their local delicacy - Mee Sup if you happen to pass by here en route to Kudat. 

Mee Sup is in fact a simple version of noodles in chicken broth, served along with few slices of chicken. There are quite a number of eateries selling Mee Sup in the town, and the locals share with me one of the famous one is located beside Dewan Masyarakat Tun Said bin Keruak. 

If you are facing Dewan Masyarakat Tun Said bin Keruak, go to your left and the unnamed shop is located in the center of the few shops there. There are only 4 tables in the eatery thus it is very likely you have to share your tables with others.

A bowl of Mee Sup is RM 5.00 and you can have it either soup or dried version (soup served aside). It has a strong chicken broth flavour and tender chicken slices (I assume is free range chicken?). You can add on a piece of Tauhu (RM 1.20) as an extra dish to the bowl of noodles. 

I think this stall is not halal as I did not see any Malay customers here. However there are a few more halal outlets serving Mee Sup in Kota Belud and should not be hard to locate it.

Overall, Mee Sup serves well as a comfort food to warm up the stomach. On a personal preference, I would prefer some green leafy vegetables to be added the bowl of noodles.
