Almost every states in Malaysia offers a different style of Laksa, and even the neighbouring Singapore also has a different type of Laksa to be tasted. For Kedahan, Laksa is like a customary meal during kenduri or celebration, whereby crowd will gather and enjoy Laksa Kedah. Unlike laksa in other states, Laksa Kedah is distinguished by its thin gravy, with the dominant flavours are sourness from the asam.
Of many Laksa Kedah stalls in Alor Setar, Laksa Ikan Sekoq is one of the popular choice by folks in Alor Setar. The Laksa (RM 4.50) here is served along with a whole mackerel (ikan kembung), and you can get unlimited refill of noodles as long as your stomach can fit!
Note: Laksa Ikan Sekoq has moved into a new location (intersection between Jalan Gangsa and Lebuhraya Sultanah Bahiyah).
Also reads our experience for different laksa in Malaysia:
Overall the Laksa at Laksa Ikan Sekoq tasted averagely to me, I personally prefer a thicker gravy and not a fan of mackerel as well.
They serve cendol pulut (glutinous rice) here as well. Generous quantity of glutinous rice was given.
