From the calming freshwater and estuary fishing to deep sea fishing, Penang is a blessed destination with abundance of seafood. As such, seafood stalls are plentiful and local Malays are adept in churning out the scrumptious hawker fare - Grilled Fish, or known as Ikan Bakar among the locals.

Idrus Ikan Bakar is one of the renowned restaurants among the locals that produce awesome Ikan Bakar, alongside with an extensive menu featuring local fares such as Tomyam, Ikan 3 Rasa (Sweet, Sour and Spicy Fish), Fried Squid, Fried Mushrooms, Salted Egg Soft Shell Crabs and the much sought after Shell Out Seafood Platter.

The restaurant is located strategically at the row of modern Malay warung along Lebuhraya Tun Lim Chong Eu, near to the Marine Police Base. As a matter of fact, Uncle Idrus is the first to setup his restaurant at this prominent location with a history of more than 30 years. 

Locals flocked in Idrus Ikan Bakar for a few simple yet firm reasons. The food is fresh and good yet affordable, and Uncle Idrus formulated his own secret recipe to create one of a kind gastronomy experience here.

For instance, Ikan Bakar Siakap (Seabass Grilled Fish) generally cost about RM 35, depending on market rate and Shell Out Seafood Platter that feeds up to 3 person is RM 75.

Even tiny details are attended to differentiate the dishes to others. As an example, Uncle Idrus made his own flour to coat the squid and mushrooms to give a distinctive taste. The super crispy yet gossamer crust gives a mesmerizing pleasure that will appease the most discerning gourmands.

All the seafood used here are procured daily from the local fishermen to ensure its state of freshness. 

Most important is Uncle Idrus is a very down to earth person. He is always in the restaurant to ensure the operation is satisfactory. From checking the kitchen to cleaning the tables, he gets himself involved and lead by example.
