Matsuki Japanese Restaurant nearby to Gurney Drive probably is one of the "senior" Japanese eateries in Penang, with its history can be dated around 2000. The restaurant has an austere facade, and people not familiar to the area would have thought Matsuki is another run down restaurant. However, do not be deceived by its outlook as Matsuki features as extensive menu of Japanese dishes in affordable manner. Moreover, there is plenty of space for car park in front of the restaurant to allow a swift dining experience.
Nigiri Sushi Sakura (RM 38) |
Nigiri Sushi Sakura, a sushi platter that comes with raw fish slice over pressed vinegared rice is a real bargain with RM 38. The sushi was no doubt fresh but the rice preparation was sloppy - the rice could not hold well as one and did not stick together, and it fall into pieces the moment we try to pick it up. Everything is alright other than above factor.
Unagi Cheesy Ebiko Fried Rice (RM 20) |
Unagi Cheesy Ebiko Fried Rice is a dish on special ala carte menu, which is not available on their big book menu. We were impressed by it. The aromatic fried rice is irresistible, and coupled with the fresh unagi with all the ebiko registers an unforgettable taste.
Yaki Gyoza (RM 8) |
Yoki Gyoza serves good either as appetizer or dessert. It was packed with rich filling with a slight crispy skin.
During lunch time, all set menu will entitle for a scoop of Haagen Dazs ice cream. How wonderful is that!
