Sabai Dee Cafe is a Thai restaurant secluded in a garden which offers a glimpse of a vast paddy field. It is a popular spot for Jitra people to seek a gastronomy reward with its authentic yet affordable Thai food. If you are coming here on a weekend, be sure to make reservation first as local folks would flock here for an awesome dinner. It is not an air-conditioned restaurant and due to its concealed location, you might get some extra company for your dinner - flies but rest assured the owner will do his best to provide you a comfortable setting by lighting up incense and extra cooling fans.
Tomyam Mix |
The menu covers an extensive range of Thai food, featuring at least 40 different Thai dishes that left us in dilemma where to start. For a great Thai-ish start, we ordered Tomyam Mix (RM 16), which is served piping hot, refreshing and not too overwhelm spicy to relish. There is Kheng Som too should you prefer a more acid sharp taste.
Sotong Stim Limau |
Otak-otak |
Next on the lineup is Sotong Stim Limau (RM 16), a traditional favorite that is spiced up with lemons and other spices. It yields a thorough refreshing sensation that complements that firm and chewy squid. If you do not mind having more seafood, then you can follow our footstep by ordering Otak-otak (RM 18), a grilled fishcake that has a variety of seafood stocked within. More excitement is revealed as we dig into the pot of Otak-otak.
Kailan Ikan Masin |
Even the simple Kailan Ikan Masin (RM 7) also manage to deliver a punch of rich taste. The crisp texture of the kailan gives some chewing enjoyment, and its gravy worked well with the white rice.
Quenched our thirst with the Thai Ice Tea (RM 3) and get a energy boast Brewed Coffee (RM 3) before heading back to Penang. What we liked is their drinks are not overwhelmingly sweet.
One shall not miss out their dessert - Red Ruby (RM 5) here. It is served generously with jackfruit and water chestnuts.
