Operating from a small hut beside a river nearby to JPJ Penang Sungai Dua branch, C.J's Nasi Lemak is probably one of the best hidden gem in Penang (check the location link in the bottom of the page; trust the location given as the place is hidden). Residents residing nearby might know its presence as we can see many dropped by for take-away in big quantity of Nasi Lemak packets during our short dining there. Operated by Chinese, C.J's Nasi Lemak only has 3 tables in the small hut which serves as the Nasi Lemak preparation centre. However, rest assured this out of no where location will reward your appetite with awesome Nasi Lemak.
Each packet of Nasi Lemak is prepared in standard portion - a cup of fragrant coconut rice, 3 pieces of fried chicken, 2 pieces of fried fish, a serving of hard boiled egg, some anchovies and a dollop of sambal for RM 3 only. Although business is brisk here, the chef is forever tedious in preparing each packet of Nasi Lemak, to the extent a dollop of sambal is shielded by a piece of banana for every packet, just to prevent the infusion of sambal onto the rice that might cause it become gluggy.
Every component of nasi lemak is well executed here. The coconut rice is aromatic with a very pleasant scent of pandan, fried chicken is deep fried with a hint scent of coconut too, while fish is fried to crispiness. Sambal is more to a milder tune and inject extra sweetness to the rice instead of building the heat. On and off, the chef will feature some additional dishes to be featured on the day, which we had a bowl of mixed vegetable curry for RM 3.
