Established since 2013 in Cintra Street, Wen Chang Chicken Rice 文昌鸡饭 is renowned for offering its patrons one of the good Hainanese chicken rice in Penang. Its history of selling chicken chicken rice is back dated to 1967, where the parents of current owner sell Hainanese chicken rice as a hwker at Church Street. The originality of chicken rice still well preserved, though the owner has added some extra choices such as lobak. The choice here is simple, just pick either white (poached) or black (roasted chicken), and have some premium dark soy sauce & chili with garlic to season it.

Although the influence of Hokkien is dominant in Penang, great Cantonese cuisine still present in this heritage town. Head over to Yee Sung Kai Chok, a modest coffee shop offering one of the finest Cantonese-style porridge. A bowl of piping hot porridge here has a sleek consistency and well seasoned, then topped with either chicken or fish. Addition of ginger slices added an extra dimension to the porridge, and feel free to fine tune the taste with the addition of pepper or soy sauce given in bottles.

Located off Cintra Street and hidden from the general view, Boey Chong Kee is a bygone taste from the old Georgetown brought to this modern city. The austere facade and plain Cantonese restaurant is a family business, serving unpretentious dishes in a quondam setting. Although the taste is simple, many of the Penangites would reminiscent the home cooked dishes here. Among the must try here is stir fried egg with glass noodles & carrots and stir fried beef.
