One of the popular spot to enjoy some great dim sum in Bayan Baru / Bayan Lepas / Gelugor area without going to Georgetown is Red Tea House Dim Sum 红茶馆点心 at Taman Lip Sin. Sharing the same building with Sunshine Lip Sin, this breakfast spot always thronged by crowd. They operate as a modern dim sum restaurant, where you have to go to the counter and pick your desired items then bring to your table, though minimal number of staff will carry around selection of dishes from table to table. There are a variety of both steamed and fried dim sum, roasted pork and noodles. Price is slightly above average but well justified by the taste.
These are what we for 2 pax and it caused a staggering bill of RM 47.50. Yes, we agreed it was slightly extreme in the quantity as there were too many alluring dim sum for us to choose. The price is determined by the tray or plate which the dim sum was served, ranging from RM 3.50++.
As an overview, Siew Bai, Gua Bao (Taiwanese Pork Belly Bun), Cai Tao Kuih, Tang Bao were good. Har Gao is generous with at least 2-3 prawns per piece of Har Gao but unfortunately it has a little bit prawn off-flavour, while the egg tarts is slightly disappointing. Nevertheless, overall it is one of our favourite spot to enjoy some dim sum to kick start the day.
