We always have a tendency to order more food than usual when we traveled far for a particular restaurant. Perhaps it was due to a psychological effect that strikes our mind during that moment "we ain't coming back to this restaurant in near future". This has resulted in bloating stomach, overspending, and of course a happy tummy.
The times the journey brought us again to Bagan Samak at Bandar Baharu Kedah. This out-of-no-where Chinese village is packed with dozens of fresh water food restaurants. After the previous pleasant experience at Ng Hang Kee, we decided to come back again and try a different outlet - Kang Fresh Water Food 阿江中泰河海鮮.
We were impressed by its facade when the restaurant emerged from the dark. It was huge with bright signage, then there are dozens of tables - both indoors and outdoors. An ideal location to hold a simple wedding dinner, perhaps?
白须公野生 Wild Catfish (RM 52) |
Since it is a fresh water food restaurant, fishes would definitely make the list to our table. The restaurant only offer Tilapia, Catfish and Marble Goby. Having tasted Marble Goby previously in another restaurant, we went for Catfish this round.
There is only one descriptive word we have for the catfish - Fresh! The flesh is flaky and intact. It was heavily seasoned which goes well with general Penangites' taste buds. Therefore if you prefer a lighter taste, remember to remind the crew during ordering.
Lemon chili Lala (RM 15) |
Paku vegetables (RM 9) |
It is commendable the chef did a wondrous job with the Lemon Chili Lala (RM 15). It is more like a Thai preparation method, delivering a pungent taste that we can sense afar. The sharp tangy and spicy sensation immediately woke up all my 6 senses during its first encounter with my taste buds. Unfortunately, the entire plate consists of probably 10% foul smell clams that affected the overall enjoyment. Otherwise it would have been perfect.
Paku vegetables (RM 9) are nice to savour. The vegetables is crisp and succulent.
Well, overall it was a great dining experience in Kang Fresh Water Food. It would be topping our frequent list if not of the distance. Nevertheless, if you have some pals who love to enjoy fresh water food, come over here and give a try!
