Ng Hang Kee Fresh Water Seafood Restaurant 黄汉期河鲜 @ Bagan Samak, Kedah

The remote Chinese village at the Southern tip of Kedah - Bandar Baharu boasts a number of restaurants that offers fresh water seafood in attractive price tags. One of it is Ng Hang Kee Fresh Water Seafood, an unpretentious restaurant with no air-condition facility but surprisingly churn out some delicious fresh water seafood. Choices are rather limited (Marble Goby, Tilapia or Catfish) 3 choices of fish - here but it is more than enough to whet our appetite. During our course of dining here, we observed fresh fishes were transported to the restaurants.

We had a 500gm Marble Goby (RM 60 / 500gm), or known as "Lam Kor" in Hokkien as our friends joked that this is a cheaper version of Empurau, which could easily priced up to a few thousands per kilogram. Over here, we tasted the freshness of the flesh, corresponded by the flaky and firm texture which greases upon the tongue. The fish was steamed with light soy sauce, which we furthered enhanced its taste by coupling with some chilies and garlic.

One of the must try dish here is Steamed Clams with Garlic (RM 15). Freshness of the clams are without doubt, and the introduction of garlic give it a pleasant tangy sensation. The Stir Fried Sweet Potatoes Leaves (RM 6) also give a crisp texture which we enjoyed.
