Raja Uda Butterworth boasts about having the most number of tomyam restaurants in Penang. We recalled ages ago, there were only a few of them - Ju Heng and the small shop beside Kwong Wah Primary School that left us countless memories but the scene is so different now. Recently, we got to know this Tomyam restaurant that operates several outlets in Seberang Prai side - Restaurant Liang Khee Noodle House (良记东炎面). Other than the outlets in Raja Uda, they have branches in Simpang Ampat, Bukit Mertajam and Autocity. The tomyam and other variant of noodles look impressive when served but the taste made us feel like we accidentally gobbled some ocean water..
Tomyam Soup (RM 13.50) |
Kon Lou Tomyam (RM 13) |
Tomyam Porridge (RM 11.50) |
Clear Soup (RM 13) |
The ingredients lining are impressive indeed. A tray full of fried fish fillets, and a few exemplary ingredients to be chosen from such as cheese balls, meat stripes, cheese and so on. Other than tomyam noodle, there are kon lou tomyam (dried version), clear soup and the peculiar tomyam porridge. Price ain't expensive too. However, the taste was too salty for our liking. There ought to be excessive usage of monosodium glutamate (MSG) as it was not the usual saltiness. This excessive saltiness destroyed the entire eating experience in our opinion.
