Tajuddin Hussain Restaurant @ Queens Street, Georgetown, Penang

Being the birthplace of Nasi Kandar, there are plenty of restaurants in Penang that offers mouth-watering Nasi Kandar - an Indian Muslim cuisine with assortment of curries and dishes to be eaten along with rice.

Google may give you the answers on where to find the best Nasi Kandar in Penang. However, trust us for one times - some of these popular places are overhyped or flooded with tourists which somehow put us off. They come with exorbitant price tags, average curries but still flocked with an exodus of crowd. God knows why.

Well, recently we unearthed a nice Nasi Kandar restaurant along Little India in Penang - Tajuddin Hussain. Apparently, it is quite popular among locals. During peak hours, it is not easy to find a seat.

Kambing Kurma

Contrary to popular Nasi Kandar restaurant culture, Tajuddin Hussain practices a different set of rules. For dine in, just take a set and the crew will come to help you out of ordering. Joining the foray in front of the dishes counter are for take away. Some great choices here will be Mutton Curry, Kurma Kambing and Ayam Ros. For best enjoyment, have it along with a plate of aromatic Biryani rice.

In case you have no idea for ordering, use this tips - just name a meat followed by a curry.

We had Nasi Biryani and Nasi Tomato. In our opinion, the Nasi Tomato was lacking the bursting flavour to our liking; but the Biryani was flavorful - full of spices and distinctive rice granules.

At a sudden, we were stunned on what to order as usually we will pop by the dishes counter and pick our own preferred choices based on sensory attributes of smelling and seeing. Therefore, we had fried chicken, kambing kurma, hard boiled egg and spinach. Fried chicken was alright but perhaps a little bit more seasoning would help; Kambing kurma is good with the soft & tender texture; while the spinach gives a subtle flavour.

The total bill come to RM 20 and subjected to 6% service charges. This explains why the crew is there to help you out with the order we supposed.
