The forever bustling Chulia Street welcomes another new Middle Eastern restaurant recently - Halab, which branches from Kuala Lumpur. Occupying a bungalow lot, the restaurant features impressive facade and spacious interior. There are ample tables in the restaurant in both indoor and outdoor settings but surprisingly the restaurant is almost full house during our a visit during post lunch hour (2pm) on a Saturday. The bible thick like menu offers a vast variety of Middle East cuisine, such as Biryani, Hummus, Grill items, Turkish coffee & tea, and etc. Though the price is set on a higher side but we felt the quality of the food here well justified it.
Chicken Maklouba (RM 25) here is delicious. The rice is fluffy and light, rendering a very delicious taste. It comes with a big portion of chicken and some eggplants. Though the chicken is flavourful, we felt it was a tad too try for our liking. It comes with a bowl of chili sauce but we feel the sauce somehow mask the natural fragrance of the dish. It has been some time since we have a plate of delicious Middle East rice.
We thought of having a try on their Mix Grills (RM 45) and it was impressive. The plate contains lamb kebab, lamb cubes, shish tawook and chicken, with 2 pita breads that paired excellently with the grilled items. Each of the meat here is grilled to perfection with tender texture, and a small dose of the garlic sauces elevated it well.
Drinks choices here are aplenty. The Adeni Teapot (RM 10; regular) we had here is unique with nice tea scent, with a lingering taste of mix spices and ginger. Best shared between 2 or 3 people.
