Tom Yam fried rice (RM 28) |
For a simple yet satisfying meal, then Tom Yam Fried Rice (RM 28) prepared by Wembley Cafe is definitely a hit. It is spicy, savoury, rich and has a slight tartness with wonderful aroma filling the air once the plate of fried rice is being served to our table. We also enjoyed the overall presentation of the fried rice, as it comes with chicken, prawns, pineapples cubes and egg.
Grilled salmon fillet (RM 48) |
Soft shell crab charocal burger (RM 30) |
Smoked duck carbonara (RM 32) |
Grilled Salmon Fillet is served at its best form, flaky on the skin with a moist middle that will melt in your mouth. It is served along with mashed potatoes, tomatoes and vegetables of the day to give additional structure to the salmon. Drizzle some lemon to give it a zest or add the special soy sauce for a more solid taste.
Otherwise, the Soft Shell Crab Charcoal Burger is a hit too. Traditionally, the deep fried soft shell crab will give out a lot of greasiness due to deep frying process but this is not the case here. It is nicely fried with crispy texture but no presence of oil residues can be detected. The plate is served along with a generous quantity of greens and fries at the same time.
Another great choice will be Smoked Duck Carbonara. The plates exudes aroma combined from both the smoked duck and cream from the spaghetti. Overall taste is rich yet not surfeiting, and it is reasonably priced at RM 32 as well, on par or even cheaper than some of the price you get at high end cafes.
The Salmon Stack Sandwich (RM 37) |
Vietnamese Sandwich (RM 25) |
If you prefer a lighter choice, then go for the sandwich menu that has Salmon Stack Sandwich (RM 37) or Vietnamese Sandwich (RM 25). The former uses ciabatta bread and has smoked salmon, avocado and poached egg to yield a nutritional balanced diet, where as the latter uses baguette sandwiching chicken slices and pickled vegetables, then topped with parsley for a more Asian taste.
Steamed radish cake (RM 14) |
Braised Shanghainese duck (RM 29) |
Double boiled Chicken Soup with Ginseng roots (RM 25) |
Cream of Asparagus with Scallop (RM 25) |
Chef Peter also exercised his prowess in preparing local Chinese cuisine. Among the local specialties he crafted included Steamed Radish Cakes (RM 14), Braised Shanghainese Duck (29) and Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Ginseng Roots (RM 25).
We thought the Steamed Radish Cakes are unique as it is topped with superior soy sauce, on top of the chili crisp and spring onion. The portion is humongous too, thus it is best shared among few people.
For those business travelers who are having a hectic time in Penang, then get yourself nourished with the Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Ginseng Roots which offers good nutritional value on top of the aromatic scent. The braised Shanghainese Duck on the other hand was so smooth in the texture with a light finishing sauce to give it a sleek sensation.
Waffle berries compote (RM 21) |
Cheese Cake (RM 21) |
Well, overall dining at Wemblay Cafe will guarantee a satisfying experience. The great food, coupled with a rather quiet environment will let you enjoy your lunch or dinner in unperturbed manner. On top of that, the price is rather reasonable and on par with high ends cafes out in the town.
