Pallet Garden Cafe @ Lebuh Carnarvon, Georgetown, Penang

Pallet Garden Cafe is an open space non air-conditioned cafe located in Lebuh Carnarvon Penang. Unlike the usual hipster cafe in the town that offers Western cuisine and a range of desserts, Pallet Garden Cafe offers comfort food of those days such as DD noodles (instant noodles topped with egg) and ko zha bi dishes (pork lard rice, lady fingers) that set to reminiscent your childhood days. The food has wallet-friendly price as well.

One of the signature here is their DD Noodle (al-dente cooked instant noodles topped with spa egg; RM 4.50). You can have it topped with an ori fried chicken, spicy fried chicken or turmeric fried chicken that will come to RM 11.90 for a bowl of noodle. We had crispy fried chicken, a crispy Taiwanese style fried chicken thigh sprinkled with paprika chili powder. It give a touch of heat to the noodles that give an overall impressive taste.

If you are avid lover of chili, do request for different types of chili at the counter to pair it with your noodles. Each yield different taste, and get ready to spice up the hot sensation.

Other than noodles, Pallet Garden Cafe also features Ko Zha Bi dishes that used to be staples for many Penangites when they were young. Examples are Bak Ki Soup, Pork Lard Rice, Ladies Finger and Spicy Chicken Claw.

We had a combination of Bak Ki Soup + Pork Lard Rice (RM 9.90 + RM 4.50). The pork lard rice is very addictive on its own. It is simple plain rice topped with soy sauce, garlic, spa egg and drizzled with pork lard that yield a subtle and nice flavour. Pork Lard Rice was a popular staple for those who live a hard time those days.

Meanwhile, the Bak Ki Soup is light and flavourful and comes with a generous quantity of Bak Ki.

One of the item that under the radar is their Herbal Tea Egg. It must have been underwent extensive cooking time that has all the herbal scent infused to every part of the egg. We have not tasted such a flavorful herbal tea egg in a while!

Pallet Garden Cafe also offers an extensive range of drinks that includes fruit juices, local tea and alcoholic drinks.

Fret not if you are concern about the non air-conditioned settings as the cafe put up some coolers and the air circulation is good enough to provide a comfortable environment for dining. On top of that, the cafe also has plenty of Instagrammable spots.
