Kai Curry Bar is a modest Japanese cafe that has been existing for some time along Jalan Phuah Hin Leong. Many would have drove pass Kai Curry Bar without noticing its existence due to its assimilation into the surrounding buildings and usage of an unnoticed signboard. The cafe is small, feels very homey perhaps due to its conversion from a living room area, and somehow it was stuffy. Kai Curry Bar features a small menu with a variety of curry rice (including vegetable options) and Udon in a moderate price range. The curry rice here may be great to satiate your craving for Japanese food but still missing a few keynotes to yield the wow factor.
We tried their Chicken Katsu with Pork Base Curry (RM 21.80) and Cheese Curry with Vegetarian Curry Base (RM 16.80). The good thing here is you can choose your curry base with options available such as pork base, chicken base or vegetarian base. The curry paired well with the fluffy rice, just that the chicken katsu we had was a tad dry and the crumbs was too hard to enjoy.
