Zhui Guo Zu Hot Pot 追锅族 @ Anson Cube, Georgetown, Penang

Recently, hot pot (steamboat) trend has been gaining momentum slowly and attracted quite a number of youngsters customers. One of the recent addition to the market is Zhui Guo Zu Hot Pot (追锅族) in Anson Cube, which they are famed for having a special hot pot featuring melting butter bear (though pre-order 1 day early is required). We thought Zhui Guo Zu is striking a difference by portraying a cafe-alike environment in their restaurant and their impeccable service crew services. On top of that, the hot pot soup base is relatively inexpensive, starting at RM 13.90 and an average spending of RM 40/pax should be more than enough to feed you. Do keep yourself updated from Zhui Guo Zu Facebook page, as they are frequently running "like & share" promotion for complimentary dish. During our visit, we were rewarded with a plate of complimentary 口水雞 (chicken with chili oil sauce)

Double Pot: Herbal Black Bone chicken soup & Sichuan Mala Spicy Soup (RM 13.90 each)

You can choose to have up to 3 types of soup per hot pot bowl, which an unique winning point as most of the hot pot shop offer up to 2 selections. Moreoever, the friendly price tag of the soup is accommodating to patron's wallet. Despite the budget friendly price, the soup still retained a decency taste though there might be a stark difference if compared to those premium hot pot relatively.

For instance, Sichuan Mala Spicy Soup has more peppery taste instead of a distinctive aromatic Sichuan Mala taste. On the other hand, the herbal black bone chicken soup is nice. Nevertheless, we felt the taste is well justified by its price tag.

Zhui Guo Zu Hot Pot offers a nice selection of hot pot ingredients. If you have budget to splurge, you may opt for Japanese Wagyu Beef or Lobster at RM 88 each. Otherwise, there are plenty of selections such as American Beef Slice (RM 16.80), Handmade Meat Ball (RM 11.90), Signature Meat Paste (RM 6.80) and etc. The overall taste of the ingredients selection are skewed toward salty.

RM 3 per pax is applicable if you wish to access to the sauce counter (up to 10 types of different types of sauces), on top of chilled herbal soup, fruits and ice cream. Personally, we feel the sauce is negligible but having a bowl of chilled herbal soup and fruits after a session of hot pot is something that we look for.

Salted Egg Fish Skin (RM 15.90)

There are various snacks for grab too and we enjoyed the salted egg fish skin here. It is thinly sliced, crisp and coated nicely with a decent quantity of salted egg. Moreover, the portion is humongous to be shared among 2 person.
