A few shop away from the famous Hong Kee Bamboo Wantan Mee in Campbell Street is another wonder food worth trying - Gou Lou Hong Kee Char Hor Fun & Noodles ( 高佬鸿记炭炒沙河粉面食). Bearing the identical name, we assumed the food here is sharing a connection or sentiment with the Hong Kee Wantan Mee, which they previously occupied the same shoplot back in Jalan Kampung Malabar. The air-conditioned restaurant offers an one page menu with charcoal fried noodles such as Char Hor Fun, Hokkien Char, Oyster Noodle, Char Yee Mee, along with some options to add on. The restaurant may not be fascinating from its facade but rest assured the unpretentious food will reward your gastronomy journey handsomely.

As like the sister shop Gou Lou Hong Kee Wantan Mee, the noodles here are impressive in taste. The stir fried noodles was fried to possess a nice subtle charcoal flavour (wok hei), along with a well controlled oil factor which was just right on point. Seasoning was nicely done, and the sambal chili given was perfect to introduce a slight heat component and a touch of tanginess.
Both the Char Hor Fun and Hokkien Char we had were great and definitely we will come back to try the other dishes.
