Near to Mount Erskine in Tanjung Tokong lies a kopitiam selling Hainanese Western Food, uniquely sharing the compound with a Chinese temple. In fact, the kopitiam has been existing for some time and popular among the locals. The menu is strikingly extensive, offering popular choices such as chicken chops, fish and chips, and steaks options, which are rarely seen in any hawker settings. Out of the 3 food we tried here, the chicken chop lived up its reputation, while the steak and mushroom soup lacks any vitality to shine. Besides, it is noted the food here, especially its sauce are skewed toward the sweeter and bolder taste.
We enjoyed the Chicken Chop (RM 11.00) much. The deboned chicken fillet is coated with a bread crumb, then deep-fried to possess a golden crispy layer with a juicy meat. It is doused with an orange colour sauce with a hint of sweetness and a slight tanginess, which we supposed does not contain any Worchestershire sauce due to its darker colour. Overall, the chicken chop is nice and pleasant to the taste buds.
On the other hand, Sirloin Steak (RM 25.00) was nothing much to shout about. We did not expect the protein to be cooked medium rare or medium to give it a juicy meat inside but the entire steak is overcook and resulted a very firm and elastic texture, which of course not very pleasant. Nevertheless, the black pepper sauce has come to rescue. It offers a rich and nice aroma flavour that compensated the vibrance of the protein.
Mushroom Soup (RM 4.00) appeared to be a popular dish over here as we saw many people ordering it but the taste was sub-par. It was served with a nicely toasted bread, but the the soup barely register any mushroom taste. All we had was a light butter taste which we forcefully to finish it.
