Teo Chew Meng has been existing in Penang and Klang Valley food and beverage market for more than a decade and has been serving Teochew delicacies that pampered the palate of many. They have a Bible thick like menu but their signature appear to be their Teochew steam fish and Mee Suah Kor with their own made Teochew Mee Suah. Shame for us as we only manage to make a maiden visit to this restaurant in 2019 at their newly open outlet in Summerskye, and we have to say we were impressed by its dishes.
As soon as we see Claypot Indonesia Prawns (RM 30/small) is in the menu, we decided to have it as not many places offer this dish. Six prawns are served for this small serving, and the prawns are small to medium size, which is not that impressive. Nevertheless, the gravy is good as it offers a nice creamy taste and cling to every bit of the prawns.
On the other hand, the Deep Fried Pork Belly (RM 15/small) is generous in serving size with a lot of pork slices. Marination was done on the point, though a tad more spices would have elevated this dish. If you are the type of person who enjoy fatty meat, then you will definitely enjoy the pork slices here.
Kang Kong Sambal Belacan (RM 10) is equally fresh and good in taste too.
The Teow Chew Yam Paste (RM 5) offers a very original flavour of the yam with a nice scent. It makes a good dessert though small in portion.
Overall, it was a delightful lunch at Teochew Meng. There are still many more dishes we wanted to try, such as their steamed fish or three flavor oysters. This low profile restaurant definitely worth the recommendations.
