Despite the mushrooming of food and beverage outlets in Penang, there is a restaurant still occupying an unique position in our heart that we go back occasionally - TGI Fridays

The American-themed TGI Fridays has been serving us authentic American style cuisine that includes Ribs, Steaks and Burgers since its inception at Queensbay Mall in 2006, and followed by the outlet in Gurney Paragon.  One of the inspiring factor here that kept us coming back is the worthy value and delicious dishes that never fail to appease our taste buds. On top of that, the liberating spirit and atmosphere of the restaurant that promises a feeling "In here, It's Always Friday"

The new Smothered Angus Beef surprised us with a range of Steak, all using quality 100% United States Department of Agriculture choice beef with nice marbling texture with a more evenly distributed fat, resulting a juicy and tender cut of protein. Among the steak options offered are:
  • Black Gold Angus Steak
  • Harissa Angus Steak
  • Sriracha Citrus Angus Steak
  • Creamy Diane Angus Steak
  • Queso Blanco Angus Steak

We had a Black Gold Angus Steak (RM 93.90) after being recommended by TGI Fridays' crew. The dish utilized striploin as the cut, offering a more lovely rim of fat with tender and juicy texture. There is a hint of char scent as the chef subjected the piece of protein to char grill. At the same time, smothering of Mozzarella cheese introduced a layer of richness to the Angus Steak, which is brilliantly balanced by the slight acidity from balsamic onions.

We thought the Black Gold sauce really made a difference to the dish, as it allows we to tweak the level of richness of the steak. It is akin to BBQ sauce but with a slight acidity and greater viscosity that coats the entire palate upon stuffing the protein into mouth. 

If you are a small eater, it is best to share the steak among 2 friends as the Angus Steak in humongous in size! American portion is no kidding for us Asians!

Another dish we tried was Cowboy Triple Meat Burger (RM 39.90), which is a true value worth of money. The slow cooked BBQ beef patty is 250gm in size, then further topped with melted Cheddar cheese, roasted beef bacon, tabasco aioli sauce and crispy frizzly onions. The burger offered a complete set of taste, remarkably the briny sensation contributed by the beef bacon, and a tad sweetness coupled with spiciness from the tabasco aioli which countered by the acidity from the tomato. Contrasting texture of crispy onions and juicy beef patty then made the burger further enjoyable!  

Even gazing at the Cowboy Triple Meat Burger is a form of enjoyment! The towering and layering of the ingredients are amazing.

The salad here is equally amazing in both taste and size too! Take a look at the Chipotle Yucatan Chicken Salad (RM 24.90) we had, which is generous in their serving with roasted pulled chicken breast on a bed of mixed greens.

Actually we were here to celebrate belated birthday, and TGI Fridays always had a practice by making your birthday a memorable ones. The crew sang birthday song in such a spirited way that really cheered our moods up, and there was a complimentary Brownie cakes which was so delicious! 

That is the way how TGI Fridays make a difference compared to conventional restaurants and kept us coming back for a reason.
