The former tin-rich town - Ipoh is brimming with colonial architecture, rickety kopitiam, thriving food scenes and a variety of attractions to visit in day time but activities choices may be reduced at night. Therefore, one of our local friend recommended us to pay a visit to The Deck Gastrobar at Weil Hotel Rooftop, one of the highest building in Ipoh that allows you to enjoy panoramic view of Ipoh city centre. Indeed, The Deck offers a chic environment with a splendid night view of Ipoh that best coupled with a cup of drinks but the food is running short of expectations.
Guests at The Deck can look forward to dine in at indoor, which provides a more fun and stylish feeling, or the outdoor which offers a more romance and mysterious dining environment. Bear in mind dining outdoor are susceptible to rain should there is a downpour, and Ipoh records a rainfall of average 157 days per year.
Deck Beef Burger (RM 32) |
The menu offered by The Deck is extensive, covering a full course meat range starting from soup, entree, main entree, pasta, snacks, side dishes and both alcohol and non-alcohol drinks. Price of the food here is relatively expensive than general Ipoh restaurants.
We had a Deck Beef Burger (RM 32) which offer little excitement. It had a beef patty topped with sauteed mushrooms, then sandwiched with brioche bun and served with truffle fries. Although the beef patty is generous is portion, the taste lacks vibrancy and monotonous perhaps due to the seasoning used.
Honey Glazed Salmon Fish (RM 48) |
On the other hand, the Honey Glazed Salmon Fish (RM 48) is alright. The Shoyu marinated salmon fillet served with sautee bok choy and Asian spring roll, along with XO Sauce is generous in size, though the texture could be improved by serving it medium rare or medium instead of almost perfectly cooked to have a tough texture.
Bakso French Onion Soup (RM 16) |
I always get excited whenever French Onion Soup appears in the menu, as it mesmerize me the moments of savouring the classic French Onion Soup back in Paris. However, this Bakso French Onion Soup (RM 16) is no where close, except having a melted baguette Gruyere Cheese on top of the soup.
Complimentary breads were served.
Overall, The Deck might not be a place that you may consider if you are after a good dinner as the food was uninspiring but the environment here compensated for the shortcomings. It is good to have a celebration and relaxing evening here.
