Many might have visited Farquhar's Bar in Eastern and Oriental Hotel Penang previously but the classic bar has been remodelled into a vintage cocktail bar as part of the Eastern and Oriental Hotel Heritage Wing refurbishment project. Currently, it features a classic long bar of oak and brass, then its lush interiors are decorated with antique fittings and plus leather sofas, overlooking the scenic view of Penang's waterfront.

Negroni range |
Farquhar's Bar features a range of classic cocktails and one of them is Negroni. It is believed to have originated from Florence, Italiy in 1919 at Caffe Casoni, where Count Camilo Negroni concocted it by asking the bartender to strengthen his favourite cocktail, the Americano with gn instead of the usual water.
Apart from Classic Negroni featuring London Dry Gin, Campari and Sweet Vermouth, the bar also offers other favourite Negroni riffs , such as Old Pal or Kingston Negroni, using Rye Whiskey and Jamaican Rum as a swap to London Dry Gin.
You may go luxurious with the Aged Negroni that uses handcrafted Gin aged in an American Oak Barrel up to 8 weeks. It offers a smoky and long lasting woody taste that lingers in taste buds upon sipping. One of my favourite of the day.

Another notable mention is Bloody Maria, which uses freshly squeezed tomato juice and cherry tomato flamed on the spot prior serving. This lively drink is believed to a nutritional breakfast and hangover cure, all in one!

Apart of cocktails, Farquhar's Bar also serves Aperitif, Whiskey, Wine, Champagnes, Beers, Soft Drinks and etc. Take your time to flip through the drinks menu, and choose the one that best complements your mood.
Farquhar's Bar also boasts a range of finger food for you to munch while having your cup of favourite drinks. Some of the selections offered are Peranakan Sliders, Potato and Caviar, Gruyere Cheese Sandwich, Beef Lollipop, Olive and Cheese and Fresh Shuck Oysters.

If you ask me what is our favourite of the day, the answer definitely is Fresh Shuck Oyster (RM 85). It tastes fresh and plump, which you unlikely to get it other restaurants in Penang.
For me, I thought the oysters best enjoyed without condiments to taste its incomparable pleasant raw flavour.

Farquhar Bar is located at lobby level of Heritage Wing in Eastern and Oriental Hotel. It opens daily from 2.30pm - midnight. Comfortable attire is welcomed until 6pm and smart casual entire is required after 6pm. T-shirts are acceptable but guests are discouraged from wearing singlets, flip flops and gentlemen's sandals.
