A trip to Penang is rendered incomplete if you have not tasted a tantalizing plate of Nasi Kandar drenched with kuah banjir (mixed curries).
There are plenty of Nasi Kandar stalls in Penang and each of them has their own forte. However, one of them has been under the radar for some time - Nasi Kandar Pokok Ketapang. Apart from strategically located in Georgetown, the place is clean too, and the Nasi Kandar is good with reasonable price. However, unlike most popular nasi kandar stalls that run their business till late night, Nasi Kandar Pokok Ketapang closes at 8pm. Hence, be early if you wish to enjoy the delicacies here.
Just head to the food counter and order whichever dishes that you find appealing. Though the selections are vast but most people could not run away from picking the regular dishes such as fried chicken, ayam ros, telur bawang, kambing kurma or beef. Then request for a kuah banjir and the server will skillfully mix the rice with different types of curry that yield an amazing aroma.
Instead of white rice, you can request for Nasi Biryani too though the latter is slightly higher in price tag.
Apart from Nasi Kandar, the restaurant also serves a variety of Indian Muslim food. However neither Mee Goreng Mamak and Roti Pisang that we tried were impressive. The Roti Pisang was awful with heavy char on both sides of the bread, rendering the bread inedible.
