Sin Boon Kee Coffee Concept Store 新文记咖啡 @ Jalan Jelutong, Penang

As third wave coffee is taking a sweep in Malaysia, local coffee shop also joined in the foray  establishing specialized cafe to allow patrons enjoy their coffee in a more sophisticated manner. One of the them in Sin Boon Kee Coffee Concept Store (新文记咖啡体验馆) in Jalan Jelutong, located just a stone's throw away from the Petron petrol station. The cafe is currently manned by its 4th generation and Sin Boon Kee coffee has been quietly serving the palate of many Penangites since 1940s (as quite a number of coffee shops use their roasted coffee beans)

What makes Sin Boon Kee Coffee Concept Store different from conventional kopitiam is that you can sip your coffee in a relaxing environment and appreciate your local dose of caffeine, without hearing the continuous shouting of "kopi satu" and etc. 

Sin Boon Kee offers a small menu consists of nasi lemak, a selection of breads/pastry and drinks. Set menu that comes with a combination of food and drinks are offered to help you to save a few pennies.

The specialty in Sin Boon Kee is their cold drinks, let it be coffee, tea or mixed. Instead of serving the drinks icy cold with a significant amount of ice cubes added, all cold drinks here are chilled in fridge without any ice cubes, allowing you taste the original taste of it without any dilution caused by ice cubes. 

For instance, the chilled Hor Kah Sai offers a continuous solid coffee and tea taste without major changes during the entire time we dining there. Meanwhile, the hot coffee is the conventional coffee you may have in usual kopitiam. Anyhow, cold drinks cost an additional RM 1 compared to

If you are looking for a more stomach filling, the only option here will be Nasi Lemak, which you can have additional toppings such as prawns or fried chicken. Nevertheless, it was mediocre in taste and still has a margin to match those simple yet delicious street nasi lemak.
